I started drill in the Fall of 1982 at the coaxing of long
time friend Liz Nordblad. At the time, we were the Trails End Challengers. My first
drill horse was Joker. He was an eight year old thoroughbred and he had won eight races at LongAcres & Portland Meadows. It was a great accomplishment to ride him on the team, show him and ride in parades. He had a giant heart.
I purchased my best horse, Slick (Bank Roller), in 1988. He was a gorgeous registered chestnut AQHA gelding. His grandfather was Doc Bar himself. He was one in a million. His best event was cow cutting (of course). He & I won a saddle in 1993 and drill horse of the year. We won at reining, bridleless cutting and numerous high points in the show ring. I miss him very much. We kicked butt for 10 years together. May he rest in peace!
A few friends and I (including my best buddy Denise) started the Silverados Drill Team in 1990,
our colors initially were periwinkle and silver, and then we changed to
purple/silver and black. We won an overall WLRCA championship in 1993; we traveled
to the P & E in Vancouver, Canada (which we won) and Reno, Nevada. Many friends
and memories have been made through drill.
In 1999, I joined the American Made Rodeo Drill Team. Our colors are
red/white and blue. Our concept is somewhat different than some teams. We
don't compete in the local WLRCA. Some of us had done that for 15 years. As a newer team, our accomplishments are piling up.
We have a great group of gals with a lot of experience. The team has traveled as far north as the Calgary Stampede and as far south as King City, California and the Cow Palace in San Francisco.
My current drill horse is Rowdy!
He is an awesome little APHA that does drill and cow cutting. I am trying to introduce my AQHA mare, Reba, to drill. So far so good. She reminds me of my ol' friend Slicker Boy.
I married high school class mate Jeff McCormick in 2000. He is a wonderful person and a great supporter of my competitive background. Jeff is always smiling and laughing. Am I lucky he and I met! We have so much fun together. Jeff and I love sports, especially football! Jeff, my Mom (Dee Ann) and I attend all SeaHawk games together.
I am lucky to have my two nieces on board the team, Lisa Musgrove and Petee Hoyt. I have been throwing them up on horses since they were cling-on's.
