Twenty-five years ago I didn't know I loved drill. A friend suggested that some local horse girls get together and start a team. As you may know, in a team there are different levels of interest, passion or commitment. I realized this was something I could do with my horse that didn't require specialized training. As the years went by, my interest became a passion. Eventually I was introduced to the American Made Drill Team. It was a big commitment in the travel department as we lived an hour away, but this team could ride! In the beginning we started slowly, but as we improved we started entering competitions, Calgary Equi-Dance 2000, Cow Palace, and Reno. We also went to parades in Portland , Seattle, Olympia, and even downtown Reno.
My mare Abby was a great drill horse. Comfortable in parades, and steady and dependable while performing. Abby and I became Honoree Members while she gave birth to her look alike, a gelding named Trueman. Trueman is coming along slowly and I hope that one day this senior member and her young buckskin Paint will ride again. Even if I don’t, I feel so blessed to be trusted with the reins to lead these very talented and determined young ladies in my new roll as Drill Master. I have found that these are hard shoes to fill thanks to Denise Vessey, our past Drill Master. Denise is now focused on shuttling her daughter to all her high school endeavors. Thank you Denise for all of the years and experiances.
I have been married to the most patient, generous husband for the last 25 years, woo hoo! Thank you Leonard, YOU ARE THE BEST! I have three kids. Andy is 21 and attends WSU. Kalee, who rode while in high school for a year, will ride again when she graduates from dental hygiene school. She will be getting married this summer. Wes, with his wife Kellie, haven given me three grandchildren, Devon, Kara, and Gavin. The rest of my family consists of five horses, three cows, chickens, a cat, and Bella, my collie. Life is good! Thank you, Lord for these gifts in my life.
